For the ones that lost something or for the ones
who just started to hear about them, let’s try to resume the most
important steps of the life of Duran Duran.
Duran
Duran was born in Birminghamin on 1978.
After various changes they reached the origlinal line-up at the beginning
of 1979 with Simon le Bon on vocals, Nick Rhodes on Keyboards, John Taylor
on bass, Andy Taylor on guitar and Roger Taylor on drums.
They began to play live shows in various clubs around B-gham and in a
lot of universities performing their own-writing songs 'til two managers
of a recording company noticed them and decided to produce their first
single, "Planeth Earth" followed by their first album "Duran
Duran". And success arrived immediately!!
The single sold more than 2,5 million of copies and this involved DD in
a long tour across Europe 'til to arrive in America on 16th September
1981.
Riding success DD published a record a year: in 1982 The "Rio"
album was published, their masterpiece for the most, and the single "Hungry
like the wolf" made them international pop stars even in America
(As you can see this song is always played in all DD american shows).
In 1983 the single "Is there something I should Know" came out
and it reached immediately the highest positions in the English and American
Charts, followed on november of the same year, by the "Seven and
the ragged tiger" album (the album dosen't contain this song on the
tracks list).
In 1983 DD started a great world tour until the April 1984 and, during
that, they wrote "The Wild Boys", the song that made them superstars
even in Italy.
In November 1984 the live album "Arena" came out and in Italy
it was "Duranmania". Everybody still remember the isteria
around the band appearence on the Sanremo Festival in february 1985.
In May 1985 the Fab Five wrote the main track of the 007 James Bond Film
"A View to a Kill", the only 007 sound track to reach the #1
position in the charts so far. In July of the same year they played at
Live Aid at JFK stadium In Philadelphia.
At the end of 1985 DD split up:Simon, Nick and Roger formed the"Arcadia"
project and published the album "So red the Rose" meanwhile
John and Andy involved themselves in "The Power Station"
project, publishing the album "The Power Station".
Few months later Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor left the band, causing a
big desperation in millions of fans all over the world.
At the end of 1986 the "Notorious" album came out featuring
a new drummer, Steve Ferrone, and a new guitarist, Warren Cuccurullo.
For this one it's the beginning of a long collaboration with DD.
Finally in 1987 DD toured Italy playing a lot of gigs in many stadiums.
In 1988 they publish "The Big Thing" album and they toured Italy
again and one of the 3 concerts in Milan was aired by TV.
In june 1989 they published "Decade", their first greatest
hits, containing their best songs from 81 to 88 . The record was
launched by the single "Burning the ground" not included in
the LP.
In 1990 Warren Cuccurullo became an official member of the band and in
August the new LP "Liberty" came out, and it was the 1st Duran
record to not reach the golden record.
After that a long period of relax and meditation followed, and in the
Feb.1993 DD made their "Big Come Back" with the "Wedding
Album" performing 2 acoustic live shows in Rome and Milan.
In 1995 they published "Thank you", a cover album that didn't
reach a big success, even if it contained some great songs as the
single "Lay lady lay", published in Europe but not in
the rest of the world.
In the same year, the 1st John Taylor's solo album come out
by an american trade mark, and in 1997 he decided to leave DD.
In 1997 DD published the"Medazzaland" album, edited only in
America and Japan and that obtained a quite success.
In 1998 the 2nd "Greatest" album was published,
containg all their singles from 81 to 97, and it was followed by a UK
tour to celebrate the 20th year of activity of the band.
In 1999 a new greatest hits, called "Essential" was published
followed by the double cd "Strange Behaviour", both anticipating
the new album "Pop Trash" edited in may 2000.
The new album was published by thet Edel trade mark, but only a single
was extracted by the album and not two as decided before. DD came back
in Italy in the same year but only to partecipate to an MTV live show
called "Sonic" recorded in Milan in front of 2000 people.
They also started a new tour and they played some shows even in East Europe.
The "feelings" around the band were not so good and Warren decided
to leave the band.
The "survivals" Simon and Nick had two choices: let DD die or
put together the original members of the band.
Fortunatly, they decide to come back together writintg 32 new songs. 12
of these new songs became "Astronaut", the second masterpiece
album of the band for the public opinion.
And it's also for that, that our website was born.
One more reason to keep close to our idols, giving the new generations
the chance to know them better.
Wild
Boys Forever !!!
